World parliaments urged to play role in tackling challenges

Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly has said that parliaments have a pivotal role in preventing and tackling existing as well as emerging crisis through effective monitoring and legislation. He urged the world parliaments to play their proactive role in tackling the challenges presently being faced by the world.
He was addressing to the 120th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Faisal Karim Kundi said that role of Parliaments being a symbol of democracy was essential in monitoring and guiding the policies of their respective governments.
He said that peace and stability was the most essential ingredient rather pre-requisite for development, prosperity and even existence of states. The prospects of a peaceful and democratic society and its economic success were endangered by the threat of crisis and seriously affected by those crises when they actually happen.
The Deputy Speaker said that parliaments play key role in gaining public support for tough measures initiated by the government. Faisal Karim Kundi said that terrorism and extremism has endangered the world peace which should be countered through a cohesive and co-ordinated strategy by all the nations.
He said that Pakistan was committed to fight terrorism in its all forms and manifestations through a multidimensional strategy which encompasses political developmental tracks and proportionate use of force where necessary.
The Deputy Speaker said that the world despite being endowed with natural and human resources were confronted with gigantic challenges of institution building, political transformation, poverty alleviation, ethnic co-existence, sustained economic uplift and revival and harmonious relations with their neighbours. He urged the international community to focus their attention on resolution of disputes through peaceful means to promote development in the world.-PR
