A five-member US Congressional delegation led by Senator Jon Kyl, called on Federal Minister for Defence, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, and discussed with him matters of mutual interest. The meeting exchanged views on regional security environment and the anti-terror efforts made by Pakistan.
The US President Barack Obama recently announced policy towards Pakistan also came under discussion during the meeting. The minister highlighted the counter-terrorism measures and the sacrifices made by Pakistan against the terrorist elements. The delegation appreciated the anti-terror efforts made by Pakistan. The Minister informed the delegation that Pakistan was committed to root out terrorism but the International community needed to enhance and strengthen its capacity enabling it to weed out terrorism.
The minister also informed the delegation that Pakistans economic and social infrastructure had suffered a lot at the hands of terrorists and active international efforts are required to strengthen its economy as well as enhance its capacity against the war on terror. The minister expressed Pakistans concern over drone attacks, saying these attacks were proving counter-productive as they causing civilian casualties and generating anti-American sentiments among the people.-PR
