Ibad appeals to people to help eradicate polio

Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, has appealed to the people to come forward and help in the governments efforts towards the eradication of polio. He was speaking at the inauguration of the three-day campaign against polio at the Governor House here on Saturday. On the occasion, the Governor administered polio drops to the children.
Director General Health, Dr Rashid Jooma, and Unifcfs Dr Asif Aslam Farrukhi, were also present. He further pointed out that polio would be eradicated through a team work. He said the efforts against polio would continue till the eradication of this very disease. Dr Ishrat said the focus of the federal as well as the provincial governments is against polio.
He informed that nine polio cases have come to the fore and three of them were in Karachi. Replying to a question, the Governor said the government is facing the challenges of extremism and terrorism. He said that in this connection along with the governmental efforts, steps are also being taken to create awareness among the people in this regard.
Dr Ishrat said that no one would be allowed to mar the law and order situation in the province as well as in the city of Karachi. He also condemned the murder of three Baloch leaders in Balochistan and said that the government has ordered a high level inquiry and stern action would be taken against those found responsible.
Meanwhile, the Manager of the National Health Programme, Altaf Hussain Bosan said that four million children under the age of five years would be administered polio drops. These would include two million children in this age group in all the towns of Karachi.
