CJ LHC, four SC judges appointed: three former Supreme Court judges restored

President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday, on the recommendations of the Chief of Justice of Pakistan, appointed Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif, Judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC), as LHC Chief Justice.
The President also appointed Justice Zahid Hussain, hitherto Chief Justice, LHC, Justice Ghulam Rabbani, former Judge, Sindh High Court, and Justice M A Shahid Siddiqui, former Judge LHC, as Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In a statement, the President reiterated his commitment for the independence of judiciary, rule of law and constitutional supremacy. Meanwhile, a press release issued here said that President Asif Ali Zardari has restored three former Judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan to the position they were holding immediately before November 3, 2007.
The President restored Justice Rana Baghwandas, Justice Falak Sher and Justice Ghulam Rabbani. This restoration is for the purpose that these Judges of the Supreme Court may draw their salaries and other benefits during the intervening period as per their entitlement in accordance with the law.
