Shells profit declines in first quarter

Shell Pakistan Limited has earned Rs 374.140 million as profit after tax in the first quarter ended March 31, 2009 as compared to Rs 962.319 million in the corresponding period in 2008. The board of directors of the company in its meeting held on Wednesday declared that the companys earning per share stood at Rs 5.46 in the period under review against Rs 14.05 in the same period a year back.
According to the financial results, the companys sales declined to Rs 37.581 billion in the three months period this year against Rs 38.988 billion in the same period last year. The company paid Rs 4.655 billion in account of sales tax in this period against Rs 4.430 billion paid in the same account in the same period previously.
The companys cost of products sold stood at Rs 30.945 billion in three month period in 2009 against Rs 31.802 billion in the same period in 2008. The companys profit before taxation stood at Rs 42.928 million in this period against Rs 1,288.076 million in the same period last year.
