Street crimes in city register increase in first half of April

Despite strict security arrangements, Sindh Home Department (SHD) failed to control street crimes in the city, as data for the first fortnight of the current month show an increase in crimes. As many as 2556 people in the metropolis were deprived of their four wheelers, two wheelers, cash, cell phones and other valuables during first half of ongoing month, official sources at the Central Police Office (CPO) told Business Recorder on Friday.
They said that that a total 197 people were deprived of cars, 62 were snatched and 135 were stolen. Gulshan-e-Iqbal remained the notorious hunting ground in respect of car snatching where 12 persons were deprived of their four wheelers. Twenty cars were stolen from various parts of Saddar Town, 19 in North Nazimabad Town, 18 in Clifton Town, 13 in Shah Faisal Town, 12 in Jamshaid Town, eight in New Karachi Town, six in Gulberg Town, four each in Bin Qasim and Liaquatabad towns, two each in Landhi, Orangi and Site towns and one each car was stolen from Baldia, Gadap, Korangi and Layari towns during the period under review.
Sixty-two cars were snatched in the city, the most affected was Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town where 12 cars were snatched during ongoing month. Seven each in Gulberg and Shah Faisal towns, five in Gadap Town, four each in Landhi, New Karachi and North Nazimabad towns, three each in Clifton, Jamshaid and Orangi towns, two each in Baldia, Korangi, Liaquatabad and Saddar towns while one each car was snatched from Bin Qasim and Layari Town.
A total of 598 people were deprived of their motorcycles: 156 motorcycles were snatched while 442 were stolen. In motorcycle snatching, 21 motorcycles were snatched in New Karachi Town, 19 in North Nazimabad Town, 17 each in Gadap and Saddar towns, 16 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, 14 in Jamshaid Town, 12 in Korangi Town, 10 in Bin Qasim Town, six in Liaquatabad Town, five in Gulberg Town, four in Landhi Town, three each in Baldia, Lyari, Orangi and Shah Faisal towns, two in Site Town and one motorcycle was snatched from Kemari Town.
Out of the stolen two wheelers, 84 were stolen in Saddar, 42 each in New Karachi and Jamshaid towns, 38 in Gulshan-e- Iqbal Town, 37 in North Nazimabad Town, 33 in Clifton, 21 in Korangi Town, 31 in Liaquatabad Town, 20 each in Bin Qasim and Gulberg towns, 18 each in Landhi and Shah Faisal towns, 10 in Lyari Town, nine in Gadap Town, six each in Baldia and Orangi towns, five in Kemari Town, and one was stolen from Site Town. As many as 1761 cell phones were snatched and stolen in first half of ongoing month. Out of these 696 cell phone were snatched and 1065 were stolen.
Ninety six, cell phone were snatched in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, 95 in Saddar Town, 79 in Jamshaid town, 55 in North Nazimabad, 47 in Gulberg Town, 46 in Gulberg Town, 42 each in New Karachi and Shah Faisal Town, 32 each in Bin Qasim and Liaquatabad Town, 30 in Korangi Town, 22 in Orangi Town, 19 in Gadap Town, 16 each in Kemari and Landhi Town, 12 in Site Town, and 07 mobile were snatched from Baldia and Lyari Town.
A total of 1065 cell phones snatched in the city last month; 151 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, 137 in Saddar, 78 in Clifton, 69 in Shah Faisal, 65 in Jamshaid Town, 65 in Gulberg Town, 63 in Korangi Town, 60 in Gulberg, 55 in New Karachi, 52 each in Bin Qasim and North Nazimabad towns, 46 in Landhi Town, 42 each in Liaquatabad and Gadap towns, 37 in Kemari Town, 30 each in Lyari and Orangi towns, 29 in Baldia Town, 20 in Site Town and seven cell phones were snatched from Malir Town. High crime rate was recorded in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Saddar Town while it was low in Site and Baldia Town.
