The construction of The Karachi Deep Water Container Port, KDWCP, is an essential part of our modernisation plans for the Karachi Port and this inauguration of the Dredging and Reclamation Contract is a big step towards achieving this target. I am grateful to my associates and consultants for having worked hard to arrive at this stage of our scheme of implementation.
We are fortunate to have appointed China International Water & Electric Corporation as contractor for the Dredging and Reclamation Works, as they have vast National and International experience of infrastructure construction and port related works. The contract provides for dredging to create a new deep water navigation channel and basin for the KDWCP harbour, and use of the dredged material for reclamation to make the new container terminal and back up areas.
With the completion of this contract and other KDWCP works, we shall have a new modern container port with a deep water channel allowing larger vessels and mother ships to dock here, thereby making operations of our port more efficient and cost effective.
I wish the best to all concerned in the successful completion of this contract and encourage KPT staff and workers to assist at all times to ensure the smooth and unhindered progress of the Works.
