China will set up a $10 billion China-Asean investment co-operation fund to support infrastructure projects in the region, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Saturday. Wen was speaking at the Boao Forum for Asia. China's foreign minister said last Saturday that China had planned to establish a $10 billion infrastructure fund for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations during last weekend's East Asia Summit.
The summit was cancelled, however, after protesters denouncing the Thai prime minister blocked hotels where visiting leaders were staying. China is still in the mode of struggling against the impact of the global economic crisis despite recent signs that its economy is starting to recover, central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said on Saturday. China needs to continue to adjust its macroeconomic policy in line with the changing situation, Zhou told a session of the Boao Forum for Asia, being held in the Chinese island province of Hainan.
