All set to launch first phase of sixth national census

All preparations have been completed to launch first phase of 6th national census covering 'House Listing Operation' from April 27 that will continue till May 11. However, the second phase of the census covering 'Population & Housing Census' will be launched in October, 2009 according to the Statistics Division.
The Population Census Organisation, Statistics Division has completed all the preparations regarding the 6th national census as it initiated a number of steps to prepare itself for conducting the census on time. Training material ie manual of instructions has been printed and supplied at census district level.
Even, training of the trainers will be completed by April 23, which began from 30th of the last month. Preparatory work ie updating of rural and urban maps, finalisation of mauza lists, delimitation of census areas etc has been completed.
Census questionnaires have also been formulated in consultation with stakeholders, keeping in view the national needs and international recommendations. A pilot census procedure has already been carried out in March-April last year, the Statistics Division said. According to documents prepared by the Statistics Division, a number of steps were taken by the Division to launch the 6th national census in the country.
According to details, calendar of activities and time frame showing sequence and estimated duration of major activities prepared and sent to provincial officers for compliance. Cartographic and Geographic work has been completed. The process of updating of rural (50,666) as well as urban areas maps (5316 Census Circles) has also been completed.
Three questionnaires have been finalised and approved by the Census Advisory Committee which were drafted in consultation with data users and experts and in the light of recommendations made in Census Methodology workshop. Delimitation of census areas has been completed while appointment of field staff has also been completed.
