Remarks about Pushtoons of NWFP by a Senator of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) stirred protest by Awami National Party (ANP) members. PML-Q Senator Javed Ali Shah remarks about Pushtoons of NWFP in the house, which was deemed derogatory by ANP members, created uproar in the house.
ANP senators Ilyas Bilor, Haji Adeel, Abdul Nabi Bangash strongly protested against Javed Ali Shah's remarks and brought the proceedings of the house to a standstill. PPP senators including leader of the house Nayyar Bukhari tried to pacify the enraged senators of the nationalist party but all went in vain. Later, the PML-Q Senator stood up and offered apology to his fellow senators.
The house witnessed another pandemonium when Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek ruled that the motion to resume debate on presidential address to the joint sitting of the parliament is adopted. Naek had to expunge his own words when PML-N leader Ishaq Dar pointed out that a motion can not be opened once it is adopted. Despite being an experienced Senator, the chairman gave the ruling, which had to be withdrawn after objection by the opposition.
