23 Apr, 2009

An accountability court acquitted MNA and PML-N leader Javed Hashmi in a reference against him for having illegal assets of rupees 28 million. The reference was filed against him in the last government of Pervez Musharraf. The court headed by Sheikh Ahmed Farooq heard all the parties at length and passed its short order acquitting him of the charges.
Hashmi while talking to media men after his acquittal said that the politicians should present themselves for accountability and face the courts with patience. He said at last he got justice from the court and he succeeded to get relief from the independent judiciary.
He said that fight for justice did not take the shadow of the umbrella of NRO. He said people who adopt other ways than facing the trial could neither become good politician nor good rulers. He said politicians should always be ready to face any trial and the public for accountability. He said remained in jail and faced political victimisation but at last succeeded to get justice.
