Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and Engro Chemicals (Pakistan) Ltd have agreed to collaborate to provide basic infrastructure to the deprived communities of district Ghotki. An agreement to this effect was signed by PPAF Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, and General Manager, Human Resource and Public Affairs, Engro, Tahir Jawaid, CEO of Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP) Dr Sono Khangharani was also present on this occasion.
As a tripartite public-private joint venture among corporate sector, civil society and the PPAF, the project will be implemented in two villages of district Ghotki and will be replicated in other areas of the province and elsewhere. Following the identification of potential villages in Ghotki by Engro, PPAF has engaged its partner organisation(s), already working in the vicinity, to initiate process of social mobilisation and community organisations in the agreed villages.
As agreed by the PPAF and Engro, all basic infrastructure projects, including water supply, sanitation, street pavements, streetlights and social sector services will be financed and implemented under cost sharing basis.
The PPAF's basic infrastructure, health and education facilities have been funded through already existing agreements with Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) of District Ghotki, whereas Engro will provide a matching grant for the implementation of the above mentioned interventions. Engro, as a part of its community welfare activities, is already playing an important role in social and economic development of natural resources in various parts of the country.
