US MIDDAY: copper falls

Copper prices fell more than 5 percent early on Thursday on demand concerns as losses in equity markets reflected ongoing economic turmoil. Copper for three months delivery on the London Metal Exchange hit a day's low of $4,290 a tonne at 1606 GMT, and closed at $4,342 a tonne from $4,540 the day before.
