LESE experts visit arms manufacturing cluster in Peshawar

24 Apr, 2009

Technical experts from Light Engineering Services Centre (LESE) on Thursday visited small arms manufacturing cluster on Kohat Road here and inspected the standard of production units and improving quality of the products.
"The visit was arranged by Pakistan Hunting and Sporting Arms Development Company (PHSADC) as part of its measures to improve the standard and quality of locally manufactured small and non-lethal arms and make them export worthy," said a press release issued here.
The PHSADC, under the leadership of its Chairman Nauman Wazir, is striving to harness the untapped potential of Pakistan's gunsmithry and earn foreign exchange through its export. The company, apart from exploring ways for export of the small arms, is also concentrating on improving the quality of products through technical upgradation and value-addition.
Recently, the PHSADC approached Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) for sharing its experience in reverse engineering so that the quality of locally manufactured arms in Peshawar and Darra Adam Khel is improved. After the visit, the LESE experts would prepare a report about its experience, besides providing suggestions for improving the standard.
The PHSADC would study the report of the LESE team and take measures for implementation of recommendations made by them. Manufacturing of hunting and sporting arms, accessories and outdoor equipment has been a heritage spread in almost all parts of the country like Lahore, Sialkot, Pindigheb, Sargodha, Darra Adam Khel, Quetta and Northern Areas.
Products, prepared by gunsmiths of Pakistan like old guns, wall hangers, replicas, daggers, have great demand in the international market and the country can earn millions of dollar through export of these artefacts.-PR
