Malaysian shares closed up 1.40 percent Friday due to strong buying interest, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index added 14.04 points to 992.68, with gainers outnumbering decliners 594 to 139. "There was strong buying interest across the board with retail and funds-favoured stocks attracting buying interest," a dealer told Dow Jones Newswires.
Among gainers, IOI Corp gained 2.30 percent to 4.40 ringgit while Genting added 3.40 percent to 4.88. On the downside, Proton lost 1.30 percent to 3.06 ringgit.
