Punjab targets six million tonnes of wheat procurement

Punjab government has set a six-million tonnes target of wheat and chief minister ordered officials to buy it before May 31. Talking to private tv channel, the provincial food minister, Malik Kamran Nadeem, disclosed that 861,593 metric tonnes of wheat were purchased from different districts of the province and orders have been given for more gunny bags. He further said that they should prefer small growers.
He also stressed that action would be taken against anyone who distributed gunny bags to influential people, all growers should be treated equally he stressed. He clarified that the food department would continue buying wheat as long as farmers came to the wheat centres. He also claimed that even though the department has enough gunny bags an order has been issued for more.
