71,435 tonnes of wheat procured in Gujranwala, nine officials suspended

About 71,435 tonnes wheat has so far been procured at government support price in Gujranwala region while nine officials of food department were suspended on the farmers' complaints against them. This was stated by Punjab Minister for Prisons Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor (focal person Gujranwala) while talking to newsmen during his visit to grain market here on Sunday.
He further said that cops have also been posted at procurement centres set up by Food department. Nine officials including incharge of three procurement centres of Ahmedabad, Alipur and Ghakharr Mandi were suspended after receiving various complaints made by the local farmers against them.
The minister said that DCOs have been directed to visit the procurement centres and check the distribution of bardana (gunny bags) among farmers.
