Due to wrong policies of the provincial government, farmers of Punjab have suffered much in selling their wheat. They are moving from pillar to post in selling their produce at prescribed rate set by the government. Former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi averred this in a press conference here Sunday.
Criticising the provincial government for boosting good governance, he said problem of wheat would soon bring the farmers on streets adding that if the present anti-farmers' policies of the provincial government will persist, the farmers would stop cultivation of wheat. Pervaiz said that there was a dire fear of wheat shortage in the country. He criticised Punjab police for arresting madrash syudents in Hazro (Attock).
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that Punjab not only produces wheat for the country, but Turkmenstan and Afghanistan and added that it was pitiable that Punjab government instead of facilitating farmers was creating problems for them. He said in the first incident a shortage was crated of urea by workers and legislators of the ruling party and fertiliser bag was sold at Rs 1250 instead of Rs 950 and million of rupees were made due to excessive profit, he added.
He claimed that during their tenure of five years there was no shortage of rice or wheat and fertilizer paucity was not witnessed. He said price was available to farmers for their produce timely. He said due to rains and inclement weather there was a possibility of wastage of wheat.
Pervaiz Elahi criticised that at first there was a slogan of Rs 2 per rotti and now this had been changed to Rs one per rotti. He said in 13 months of the present provincial government not a single penny had been given under the head of zakat. The former Chief Minister said that their workers would monitor the sale of wheat in the buying centers. He said in the days to come they envisage a severe crisis of wheat and water.
He said it was important for the government to build Kala Bagh Dam or other dams in the future. Giving his comments on the Swat peace accord, he said it was done in good faith at first but now a wrong interpretation was given on that. On Balochistan, he said if somebody had worked on recommendations of their committee, things would have been for better. He said that they would not budge on Kashmir issue nor accept hegemony of India at any cost. Pervaiz Elahi said those who had taken vote on the issue of Lal Masjid had forgot on the issue of drone attacks.
