Meat importers demand better facilities at Wahgha border

01 May, 2009

The meat importers have demanded of the government to improve arrangements at Wahgha border besides facilitating them for doing business without any problem. Fayyaz Khan importer of Buffalo meat along with other importers said this while addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club here on Thursday.
He alleged that Quarantine Office at Wahgha border is not playing its due role and the Veterinary Doctor deployed there to test quality of the meat for importing it, uses delaying tactics to mint money. Fayyaz said that his two consignments of meat worth millions of rupees could not be imported because the said officer failed to reach his office within the stipulated office time on two occasions.
As a result he had to suffer huge financial loss, he added. He said that he had brought the matter into the notice of Director Quarantine at Karachi but he could not get any positive response from there. He urged the government to take necessary steps to solve such problems of meat importers.
