Karachi Violence: Rehman presents preliminary report to Prime Minister

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has stressed the need of national unity and solidarity, saying that the objective behind launching operation in Lower Dir and Buner was to restore writ of the Government. "The operation is meant to re-establish the writ of the constitution in those parts and for restoring Quaid-e-Azam's Pakistan", the Prime Minister said while talking to Rehman Malik, Federal Minister for Interior here on Thursday.
Rehman Malik presented to the Prime Minister preliminary report on violence, which erupted in Karachi on Wednesday in which more than 30 people have died so far and dozens other have been injured besides destruction of huge property and vehicles worth millions of rupees.
The Prime Minister said that at this crucial time entire nation should forget their political differences and rise to the occasion, and remain united to face the challenges ahead. This is the only way to frustrate designs of the militants and extremist elements, "Nation should get united to defeat extremists and bail Pakistan out of the present crisis", he added.
Gilani also reviewed the earlier instructions given to the Interior Ministry regarding the early rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and directed Interior Minister to take immediate measures for early rehabilitation of the IDPs from Swat and other parts of NWFP. He called upon political forces to show complete sagacity, saying that all political forces should unite against the scourge of terrorism.
In the meeting Rehman Malik briefed the Prime Minister about the steps being taken to improve law and order situation in Karachi. The security forces' operation in Buner and law and order situation in the country also came under discussion. He apprised the Prime Minister of the situation in Karachi after recent incidents of violence, and the steps being taken by the law enforcement agencies for maintaining law and order in the mega city.
