Pakistan Muslim League-N member of National Assembly from Rawalpindi Haji Pervaiz Khan has decided to resign from his parliament seat after being found guilty of impersonation in intermediate examination. The decision was taken by the MNA after a three-member, committee constituted by party chief Nawaz Sharif to probe the case, completed its investigation on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference at Punjab House here, Nawaz Sharif said that his party MNA Haji Pervaiz Khan, who had been affiliated with the party for the last 30 years and had made a lot of sacrifices for the party, had decided in principle to quit the NA seat in the light of the probe body findings.
The three-member committee, comprising MNA Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Senator Pervaz Rashid and MNA Nuzhat Sadiq, took four days to come to the conclusion and found that a third persons had appeared on behalf of Haji Pervaiz in the paper of Pakistan Studies in intermediate examination, Nawaz Sharif added.
"Haji Pervaiz has decided to resign immediately from the NA seat after listening to the findings of the committee at a meeting with me today," he said. Nawaz maintained that Haj Pervaz had been affiliated with the party for the last 30 years and contributed a lot to the party.
However, he said, sometime certain decisions had to be taken keeping in view the ethics so that such traditions should be maintained in all walks of life. Everyone, he said, should respect law and principles and abide by the rules and regulations to run the country in a lawful manner.
To a question, Nawaz Sharif said that the government should also take action against those who were also involved in this impersonation case other than Haji Pervaz Khan. The PML-N chief said that Pakistan was passing through a critical phase of history and the entire nation should unite to face the challenges.
About rejoining to the Federal government, he said, his party would go along the Pakistan People's Party government if all the commitments made by the PPP were fulfilled. Commenting on the Charter of Democracy (CoD), he said, it was a complete roadmap for good governance and "I do not understand why its implementation is being delayed."
He opined that all the anti-democratic amendments, made in the Constitution by the dictators, should be removed by the parliament. To another question, Nawaz said he again talked to the Prime Minister on Tuesday and reminded him to convene an APC for evolving a joint strategy to handle the present situation, particularly the security situation in Swat, Buner, Fata and Balochistan.
He said that the people of Balochistan were feeling deprivation and all of us should play our due role to give them their due rights, respect and confidence. Commenting on picture being painted by the external forces, Nawaz said that Pakistan was not a failed state despite the fact that time and again its institutions were revamped and its Constitution was violated by the non-democratic actors. "In future, we will break hands of all those making any move to trample the Constitution," he added.
The PML-N chief said that he had asked the Punjab government to extend its support to the NWFP government for helping the Internally Displaced People from Swat, Buner and other parts of the NWFP. Responding to yet another question, he said that he was not eyeing any slot rather he wanted to work for improving internal and external weaknesses the country was facing today.
