Environmental degradation threatening survival of human beings: Afridi

The Federal Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said that environmental degradation was one of the major issues threatening the survival of human being. "Children are the agent of change therefore we are aiming to involve school children for raising awareness on environmental concerns and to motivate them to be the part of the efforts for addressing the environmental issues," he added.
He expressed these views while addressing the certificate distribution ceremony of successful completion of "Three-day Teachers Training Workshop on Environment" organised by the project Environmental Education in School through Roaming Teachers of the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Water Aid here at the Ministry Thursday.
The Minister said that Ministry of Environment has target to cover the students of 360 Government Schools of Islamabad to make them aware on environmental issues and develop their habits for environmental conservation. He said that top 20 schools would be selected through competition among all the Islamabad schools to give Green Award on showing best environmental practices.
Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi asked the teachers to play their due role for environmental awareness and inculcating the message of environmental conservation among the children. He said that Ministry would benefit from the teachers for conveying the message of clean and green environment by the school teachers to participate in National and International Workshops. Additional Secretary Environment Imtiaz Inayat Ellahi also spoke on the occasion.-PR
