Cotton sowing must be completed by May 15 because late cultivation may reduce the per acre yield, said District Officer Agriculture (DOA). Talking to journalists here on Thursday, DOA Malik Amjad Iqbal said, "Late sowing would definitely affect the production, so it is better to complete the sowing before May 16."
He advised the farmers to keep the plant population at 20,000 per acre, adding that this ratio was most beneficial for crop quality and yield. He said the growers should use fertilisers in appropriate quantity and the weeds must be extirpated 100 percent. To a question, the DOA said, "It is hoped that cotton sowing target would be achieved in the district."
