Body formed to fix price of gems for export

A joint committee of Pakistan Customs and exporters would review and fix the price of exportable precious stones on the basis of carat and weight, while it would also decide matters relating to the price of leather goods. This decision was taken in a meeting of the five-member committee constituted by the Collector of Customs, Peshawar, for verification of the use of fake coins in the export of artificial jewellery from the city.
The members of the committee were chairman the of All Pakistan Exporters Association (APCEA), Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, Jamshid Khan, Nawaz Khan and Dr Khushal Khan Mohmand from exporters, and Pakistan Customs was represented by Deputy Collector of Customs Mohammad Ahsan Khan, Deputy Collector, Customs, Dryport, Dr Nauman Khan. Pervaiz Elahi Malik and Mazhar-ul-Haq.
The meeting agreed in principle to finalise the recommendations regarding verification of the use of fake coins in the export of artificial jewellery. The meeting also decided that as there is no fixed price of the export bound previous stones, Pakistan Customs, in co-operation with Apcea would review the prices for time to time. The price would be fixed on the basis of carat and weight. The body was also authorised to fix the price of leather goods to mitigate the difficulties of the exporters in this regard.
The customs officials also reviewed some grievances pointed out by the exporters and decided that all export bound goods from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm and even during the morning session would be cleared to complete the process of export. The meeting also reviewed the re-checking of export bound goods by the Anti-Narcotics Force and damage to the packing of the carpet and leather goods. The officials assured the exporters that their problems would be resolved on priority basis. APCEA chairman Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi appreciated the efforts of Collector Customs, Peshawar, Najeeb-ur-Rehman Abbasi for exhibiting interest in the resolution of the problems of exporters.
