Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday said it is time to promote real image of Islam, damaged by some extremists, for bringing peace and harmony back to the society. The Prime Minister was addressing the launching ceremony of English poetry book "High Assembly of Sages," written by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali, here.
The poet in a very light tone touched the problems being faced by common man at the grass-roots level, he added. He said as the poet belongs to the land of Bulleh Shah, he has talked from his heart in the language of Sufis and his poetry covers all the aspects of common man's life.
The book soothes us as it grapples with serious subjects and it is not the kind of poetry, which is written by critics for other literature critics to show their grip on a subject. His book reflects the wide range of his thoughts and imagination. It touches us more because it covers contemporary subjects. He said the poem "High Assembly of Sages" which is also the name of the book strengthens our belief in mankind's destiny to fulfil its promise.
While paying tributes to the poet, the Prime Minister said he talks about the major scientific currents of modern times such as the human genome project and the Big Bang, but he is not overwhelmed by them. The Prime Minister also recited verses from the book, which the poet has written as a tribute to Benazir Bhutto.
Gilani said it gives him great pleasure to launch the first book of poetry compiled by his friend and colleague Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali. Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali in his remarks said that poetry is the language of heart and the poet highlights the sentiments of the people through his poetry in a light way that attracts those who want to solve their problems.
