SHC orders government to bring back Dr Afia

Sindh High Court ordered ministry of Foreign Affairs and government of Pakistan to start diplomatic efforts for bringing back Dr Afia Siddiqui and her children from US imprisonment.
Sources said a division bench of SHC Friday issued orders for the release of Dr Afia and directed ministry of Foreign Affairs to ask Pakistani ambassador in US for registering FIR against six veiled assailants, who allegedly disgraced her in the hospital.The court ordered the government to depute a "team of lawyers", which will pursue the case in US. The court also ordered the government to provide financial assistant to the family of Dr Afia, if needed.
The bench directed Foreign ministry to submit a report in office of 'Member Inspection Team', after every forty five days regarding efforts made by the government on court's directives.
The Division bench of SHC comprising of Justice Athar Saeed Khan and Justice Arshad Siraj Memon, disposed off the hearing of the petitions, filed regarding the release of Dr Afia and her children and registration of an FIR against her molesting. The petitions filed in the court stated that Dr Afia Siddiqui was arrested from Karachi in March 2003 and shifted to US illegally. It also pleaded before the court to bring back Dr Afia, and initiate legal action against those officials who were involved in her case.
