Kenya's Koech runs the seventh fastest 25km

Kenya's Matthew Koech won Berlin's 25 kilometres race here on Sunday in one hour 13.24 minutes in the seventh-fastest time over the distance. Koech came home first ahead of compatriot Fred Kosgei, who finished in 1 hour 14.35 minutes, and 2007 world marathon champion Luke Kibet, who crossed the line in 1 hour 15.31 mins to claim third.
The 26-year-old Koech ran the fastest 25kms in the world so far this year and was 40 seconds off the world record of 1 hour 12.45 seconds set by Paul Malakwen Kosgei in Berlin in 2004. The female race was won by Kenya's Peninah Arusei, who finished in a new course record 1 hour 22.31 minutes.
