Partly Facetious: Musharraf was dictator, Zardari is not

13 May, 2009

"Nobody is in the country but us chickens."
"What in the world are you talking about?"
"Well the President is out of the country, I believe he is now in London after a private visit to New York and..."
"But he met the foreign ministers of Britain and France."
"He should now invite all these people to Pakistan. It's kind of cheaper on the kitty."
"If you are referring to $5000 per night then the Embassy did state that the government got it at half price."
"Wow a steal at 2500 hunh!"
"Don't be sarcastic. It's a steal compared to Musharraf era though the number in the entourage was kinda high..."
"Musharraf was a dictator, President Zardari is not."
"You reckon different strokes for different types of governments."
"Absolutely."
"The Pakistan Embassy also stated that Bilawal Bhutto's room was paid for by his father. And he accompanied his father to meetings for his mother's sake."
"Two things: first the Zardari fortune was not earned outside Pakistan if you know what I mean. And spending money in dollars, even his own, when the national kitty is almost empty of foreign currency and he has gone abegging is simply not kosher. And secondly Bilawal attended high level government to government meetings - we all saw it on our television screens and as the President did not take the independent media with him the footage released was endorsed by the state controlled media and, therefore, okayed by the President. Not acceptable."
"Who cares whether their explanations make any sense or not. It's the fact that they think they need to explain at all ... if it was the Musharraf era your criticism would have been ignored and maybe you would have disappeared."
"I guess we have come a long way in that case."
"Good and you need to give them time: on the job training is ongoing you know..."
"I don't see any positive effects of the training yet in speeches and..."
"A bit more time my friend."
