ISLAMABAD: The 59th martyrdom anniversary of Major Tufail Muhammad was observed on Monday across the country and tributes were paid to his selfless services to cause of the country.
He was born in 1914 in Hoshiarpur.
He was commissioned into the 16th Punjab Regiment in 1943, Radio Pakistan reported.
On August 7, 1958, he launched an offensive against Indian forces that captured a village in the area of Lakshmipur the then East Pakistan.
Despite facing heavy resistance from the invaders, Major Tufail and his men carried on with their mission and were able to force the enemy to withdraw their hold over the village.
Major Tufail Muhammad received a number of bullets on his chest and embraced martyrdom the same day.
Major Tufail Shaheed was awarded Nishan-e-Haider for his gallantry services.
