China reaffirms strong support for Pakistan

China has reaffirmed strong support for Pakistan's security and economic development. This was conveyed by Chinese Foreign Minister, Yang Jiechi, when Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir called on him in Beijing, said a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The Foreign Secretary underscored the strong commitment of the democratic leadership, national institutions, and people of Pakistan to the advancement of the Pakistan-China strategic partnership. Salman Bashir briefed Foreign Minister Jiechi on national efforts to address the challenges of militancy and extremism and shared Pakistan's perspective on recent developments in the region including Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister Jiechi reiterated China's strong support for Pakistan's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and reaffirmed the commitment of the Chinese leadership to further strengthen the Pakistan-China strategic partnership. He expressed appreciation for Pakistan's national efforts to address militancy and extremism and assured all possible support to Pakistan in addressing these challenges.
He also conveyed the Chinese government's decision to provide emergency assistance to Pakistan to help with relief efforts for the displaced people. The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that, in the wake of the rapidly changing international and regional situation, it was imperative for China and Pakistan to work closely to safeguard and promote the strategic interests of the two countries.-PR
