Probe ordered into hefty payments to Arif Chaudhry

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday directed the Ministry of Law to probe into the heavy payments made by government to Arif Chaudhry advocate in Musharraf's era and recover the money, if any, paid against the rules and regulations and take appropriate action against him.
The court, while disposing of a petition filed by Barrister Iqbal Jaffari against misuse of national exchequer and appointment of Arif Chaudhry as government spokesman, observed to maintain public trust, the affairs of national exchequer should be made transparent. The petitioner was of the view that the Federal government had appointed Arif as spokesman and engaged him in cases where the government lawyers were also available. He said the government paid him hefty amount against rules and regulations during Musharraf's era.
