Dr Altaf Hussain Executive Director Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) while addressing a press conference here on Friday said that the hospital so far has registered 77 families of IDPs including 45 doctors and 32 other families. Pims is providing accommodation, transport, financial support and education to their children.
Pims is also providing medical facilities to IDPs and has established 20 bedded field hospitals at Jalozai. There are 10 teams of doctors' nurses and paramedics and each team is composed of 2 female and 3 male doctors 3 nurses 5 paramedics and 8 members of supporting staff.
We are providing on site curative and preventive services and medicines, daily 2 specialists are visiting the camp and checking average 500 patient, he added. The facilities at the Jalozai camp are OPD, Indoor diagnostic including ECG, Ultrasound and basic lab tests, pharmacy, minor OT mobile unit, ambulance services and food for admitted patients.
Soon a satellite hospital will be established at Pabbi for IDPs by the Pims administration. During the press conference attendant of patient admitted in the surgical ICU raised the issue of a suspected substandard injection. Pims in charge of the surgical ICU Dr Kamal Nasir told the attendant that the antibiotic injection, which attendant has bought from the private medical store in the Pims name pharmax is suspected.
Pims administration called the chief pharmacist and the drug inspector who came and took 3 samples from the pharmax and sent to the lab at Lahore for test. Pims administration has already stopped the pharmax for selling the drugs before the arrival of the drug inspector.
Dr Rasheed chairman quality control also came, it is to mention that the same store was sealed twice on the complaints of Pims administration on account of overcharging but they got relief from the court. Pims administration already wrote a letter to the Ministry of Health about opening of fair price shops of medicine to reduce the monopoly of this store; this pharmax has 140 branches in the country and is working since 1994 under the contract of the government. Pims has no administrative control on this private medical store.
