NWFP apex body reviews law, order situation, relief activities

The Apex Policy Committee of NWFP, met under the chairmanship of NWFP Governor, Owais Ahmed Ghani at Governor House, Peshawar on Saturday, reviewed the over all law and order situation in the province and Fata with special focus on state of relief activities for internally displaced persons.
Corps Commander, Peshawar, Lieutenant General Muhammad Mahmood Aslam, Chief Secretary, Javed Iqbal, Senator Afrasiab Khattak and Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmad, Chairman, Special Support Group attended the meeting. The meeting was briefed on the measures underway to provide logistic support in shifting of the internally displaced persons from affected areas to the relief camps in nearby districts; availability of items of daily use in the relief camps, as well as the ongoing security arrangements in the relief camps.
Matters relating to return of IDPs to their home towns also came under discussion and it was noted that a concrete plan was already underway to facilitate the IDP's return as soon as conditions permitted. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor appreciated the working of all concerned, engaged in helping the internally displaced persons. He especially eulogised the magnanimity of the people of Mardan, Swabi and Peshawar who had voluntarily taken IDP families into their homes and were taking care of their countrymen in true national spirit.
