Emergency Response Unit (ERU) has taken strict notice of charges being made by IDPs about misuse of relief items being provided by various donor agencies and directed the security agencies to arrest all elements found guilty of selling food and other items being provided to the IDPs.
According to a press release issued by ERU, acting on the instructions of Provincial Relief Commissioner and Incharge of ERU, Muhammad Azam Khan, security officials of Commissionerate of Afghan Refugees have arrested four officials at Jalozai Camp on the charges of stealing items sent for the IDPs.
Incharge security of CAR informed that a sub-inspector Attiqur Rehman, two storekeepers Inyat Khan, and Musa Khan and a food constable Murad Khan and junior clerk Nawabzada were spotted by the security officials stealing 36 steel plates, three tarpaulins, 60 packets of biscuits and 20 kg sugar.
They were carrying the stolen items in the car of sub-inspector Attiqur Rehman when the security officials arrested them and sent them to jail. Meanwhile, clerk Nawabzada reportedly fled the scene. The ERU chief has issued instructions of zero-level tolerance for corruption of duty by officials deputed in the camps established for the internally displaced persons in various parts of the province.
A strict vigil will be kept on the authorities discharging duties in the IDPs camps, adds the press release. The ERU has been set up by the NWFP government for monitoring the relief operation for the IDPs from Malakand division where the security forces have been carrying out a big operation against the miscreants. The ERU will ensure proper utilisation of funds being provided by the donor agencies and philanthropists.
