Health budget to increase 56 percent

The government has graciously increased the 2009-10 budget of Ministry of Health to Rs 29.685 billion, which is 56 percent higher than the previous year's sanctioned budget. This was announced in the Standing Committee meeting on Health held here on Saturday chaired by Chairman Standing Committee on Health and MNA Dr Nadeem Ehsan.
The committee was briefed about the development and non-development budget of Ministry of Health, its ongoing and proposed projects for the year 2009-10. The Chairman took a strong notice of the conflicting statistics given by the M/o Health and asked them to submit their report in a presentable manner in the future.
Later the committee was briefed about the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in NWFP, their health condition and the role of M/o Health, its co-ordination with different agencies, information management, response to current and emerging needs, and resource mobilisation. The committee was also told that the M/o Health has decided to establish Diarrhea and Dehydration treatment centres in these camps to cater for any future outbreak in the hot season.
