Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia Lieutenant General Tahir Mahmud Qazi (Retd) on Monday appealed to the Malaysian people to extend a helping hand to their Pakistani brethren and generously donate for the two million displaced people of Swat.
The High Commissioner said the internally displaced persons (IDPs) were being housed in make-shift tented temporary arrangements and they were in dire need for basic necessities such as mosquito nets and mosquito repellents, hygiene kits, mattresses, high energy biscuits, dry milk, dates, ORS, IV fluids, antibiotics and other such essential items.
Tahir Qazi said Pakistan government was doing its level best to provide necessary relief to these IDPs out of its meagre resources, but enormity of requirements was such that the government was unable to cope with the requirements out of its own resources.
He said the United Nation had aassessed the immediate need of 600million dollars in addition to the 25 million-dollar fund created by the Pakistan government and 222 million dollars pledged by the donors during an international donors' conference held recently in Islamabad.
The donation, preferably in cash, could be deposited directly with Affin Bank's account number 2000 2062 4790 titled "Prime Minister's Special Fund for Victims of Terrorism."
