Pakistan People's Party on Tuesday decided not to field its candidate on any seat against the PML-N leaders, following the Supreme Court decision to lift ban on them from contesting elections. The decision came at a meeting here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to review the overall political situation in the country.
They have decided that the party will not field its candidate against the Sharif brothers as a gesture of reconciliation and respect for each other's mandate, a Prime Minister House spokesman told APP.
Prime Minister Gilani who congratulated the PML leader Nawaz Sharif by telephone said Pakistan People's Party has always believed in politics of reconciliation. The President and the Prime Minister expressed the belief that the Supreme Court decision will go a long way in strengthening democracy in Pakistan and they hoped that PPP's gesture will further strengthen norms of parliamentary democracy.
