Progas Pakistan Limited, one of the leading LPG companies in the country, with its current capacity can supply LPG to 1500 autogas stations. According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the company has an integrated supply infrastructure geared up for import, logistics, distribution and marketing of LPG in the country.
It is the first company in Pakistan to have its own import terminal and the largest LPG storage in the country at Port Bin Qasim. LPG autogas is the third most widely used automotive fuel in the world and currently being used by 11 million auto users. Although Pakistan is yet to have its first operational LPG filling station, there are an estimated 0.5 million vehicles in major cities, like Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, etc.
These vehicles, which include taxis, tri-wheelers and small commercial carriers; most rely on illegal decanting to fill up their tanks. Decanting or transferring of LPG from one cylinder to another is an illegal practice and is extremely dangerous. It has often resulted in extreme fire hazard and localised explosions due to unsafe handling of LP gas.
Progas is engaging stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to promote the use of LPG as an auto fuel. It is holding a series of awareness sessions with petroleum retailers to educate them about LPG and its benefits as an efficient and environmentally safe fuel. LPG provides almost the same efficiency as petrol but has the lowest carbon emissions of all the hydrocarbons.-PR
