Thai shares closed flat on Thursday after investors stayed on the sidelines awaiting clearer signals about prospects for a global economic recovery, dealers said. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) composite index edged up 0.02 points to close at 555.43. The blue chip SET-50 index slipped 0.29 points to 394.84.
Gainers edged losers 178 to 172 while 139 stocks were unchanged on turnover of 3.4 billion shares worth 10.9 billion baht (316.8 million dollars). The baht slipped slightly against the dollar to close at 34.42-44 to the dollar, compared to Wednesday's close of 34.38-40. But the Thai unit rose against the euro to close at 47.70-84 compared to 47.99-48.04 the previous day. Bangkok Bank edged down 0.25 baht to close at 88.75 while Kasikornbank slipped 0.75 baht to 55.75.
