LEAs told to ensure safety of National Assembly budget session

29 May, 2009

The law enforcement agencies have been instructed to arrange special security arrangements for the security of National Assembly budget session beginning June 13. Sources told Business Recorder on Thursday that terrorist strikes in Peshawar, Lahore and DI Khan alarmed the National Assembly secretariat. It is seeking stringent security steps for the budget session.
The military offensive, which is viewed effective against the militants, has put the major cities at risk of terrorist activities. There is need for strict security measures including the deployment of more personnel and assistance should be sought from the Pakistan Army for additional troops deployment in and around the parliament building.
There is also need for establishing additional checkpoints in different parts of the city to secure the high security Red Zone of the federal capital. The budget will be presented on June 13 and the ministry of finance has finalised all necessary arrangements in this regard.
