The literary services of eminent intellectual, writer and researcher Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo were highly eulogised by the writers, educationists and politicians while an Honorary Degree of Doctorate was announced for him by the University of Sindh (SU) in recognition of his life time achievements at a ceremony arranged by Provincial Culture Department to acknowledge the intellectual's services, at a local hotel here on Friday night.
Speaker Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo rendered matchless services for the common cause of Sindh and the people of Sindh. He said even during illness, he used to continue his struggle for the spread of education, promotion of Sindhi language and culture and protection of basic rights of the people.
Lauding the step taken by Provincial Culture Department for celebrating with living legends of Sindh, Nisar Khuhro said that it would not only encourage them but also create awareness among the people and provide an incentive to the young writers.
Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism, Sassui Palijo in her address lauded the services and achievements of Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo and termed him as a great and brave writer who is still struggling for the cause of Sindh since last 75 years.
She said that a project to preserve the poetry of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai into Raag (song) has been taken in hand as per recommendation of Ibrahim Joyo and added that a gallery under-construction at Sindh Museum has been named after him to accord recognition to his services.
Sassui Palijo said that Ibrahim Joyo is a great scholar of the sub-continent and in order to project his ideology in the Western countries, her department would get the books of Joyo translated into English. She also announced publication of three books written by Ibrahim Joyo, which include second edition of "Sorrows of Sindh", "On SINDH" based on the articles of Sindh quarterly and "Oriam kay Ahwal" based on exchange of letters with friends, intellectuals by the Culture Department.
