APNS urges Sindh government to clear advertisements bills

02 Jun, 2009

The Executive Committee of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society at its meeting held on May 27, 2009 urged upon the Sindh government to clear the long pending bills of member publications based in Sindh against provincial government advertisements amounting to Rs 350 million.
The Executive Committee in a special resolution has requested the Chief Minister to look into the matter and ensure the clearance of the dues by the Sindh Information Department.
The Committee regretted that a significant amount to clear the bills has already been sanctioned but not being paid to the member publications of the APNS.
The APNS Committee while endorsing the notice issued to the Sindh Information Department by the APNS, has appointed a sub-committee consisting of Muhammad Aslam Kazi, Senior Vice President, Dr Jabbar Khattak, Secretary General, Syed Sarmad Ali (Jang), Masood Hamid (Dawn), Ilyas Shakir (Qaumi Akhbar), Kazi Asad Abid (Ibrat), and Aijaz-ul-Haq (Express) to take up the matter with the concerned authorities for compliance of the notice and decide further action in this regard.
The members of Executive Committee also noted with concern that some member publications based in Sindh were acting in prejudice to the interest of the Society and had formed a parallel body to disturb the unity of APNS ranks. The members advised these publications to refrain from such practices in their own interests. The Executive Committee assigned the above sub-committee to investigate the matter and recommend appropriate actions in this respect.-PR
