Major food development projects launched in AJK

The AJK government has launched some major food development projects to meet the local needs of the area, official sources said. The ongoing food projects have yielded positive results during the current financial year, the sources said. The government had purchased 19 tons of wheat only from Iftikhar Abad town few months ago and earned the profit of over Rs 3 million.
The government has established 26 new depots only during the new fiscal year. Earlier, only 62 depots were established in AJK during the last six decades, the official said. He said that the locally produced Atta was available in required quantity at inexpensive and subsidised rates, as compared to the product pouring in AJK from other parts of the country. The sources further said that the government was taking all possible steps to ensure the supply of quality Atta to the consumers.
The sources pointed out that 0.2.75 million tons of Atta produced by flourmills of AJK was utilised during the last financial year with the co-operation of the food department. During current fiscal year, 0.3million tons of Atta would be required for the people across the AJK, they maintained.
