IDPs

03 Jun, 2009

Print and electronic media is giving a wrong feedback to the people by exaggerating problems faced by IDPs in the camps. We should realise that IDP camps sprang up with the sudden influx of the migrants from various areas that were affected by military operations.
The magnitude of the migrants shocked the administration and it became a problem to accommodate all of them with the available resources. However, credit must go to the provincial and federal governments for handling the issue with meagre resources. With the passage of time and financial assistance from the donor countries the situation has reasonably been stabilised.
We should appreciate that IDPs cannot get the same facilities in camps as they had in their homes. A tremendous support from the welfare outfits to bring relief good to the camps shows the spirit of assisting fellow countrymen in the hour of crisis. The print and electronic media should project positive image and boost up the morale of IDPs and the general public. On the other hand IDPs should realise that it is a temporary phase and, God willing, they would return to their homes soon.
