Minister urges PSC to improve procurement system

The Punjab Agriculture Minister, Ahmad Ali Aulakh, has called upon the officials of the Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC) to improve the procurement system and develop seed factories on latest lines to meet the target of achieving 50 per cent increase in the seed production in the next two years. He issued these directions, while chairing a meeting of the Punjab Seed Corporation Workers Federation here on Wednesday.
He appreciated the efforts of the Corporation as a result of which it procured 70,000 metric tonnes certified wheat seed in the province after recent harvest of wheat crop. This was some 30 per cent more than the last year. Aulakh directed the administration of the corporation to recruit people on vacant seats and implement the decisions taken to ensure better incentives to the workers and their welfare.
He also called for making marketing system effective to ensure sale of wheat, cotton, rice, maize and other seeds according to the targets. He said that seed play key role in better and quality production of the crops so it was essential that farmers should be given certified seeds in required quantity.
