A meeting of the NWFP Prisons Department in order to discuss ADP 2008-09 schemes was held at Committee Room of Home Department Peshawar on Wednesday. The NWFP Minister for Prisons, Mian Nisar Gul Kakal Khel, was in the chair. The meeting reviewed in detail the current and proposed development works being carried out in various jails of the province and tabled some viable proposals for approval in this regard.
The NWFP Minister for Zakat Haji Zarshaid Khan, MPA Mohammad Anwar Khan, Special Secretary Home Jamal Nasir, Director Works and Services Farooq Khan, AIG Prisons Shah Sulman, Superintendents and Deputy Superintendents of various Jails and officers, officials of other concerned departments were attended the meeting.
The meeting was told that feasibility, planning, designing and construction of central Jail Peshawar, Central Jail DI Khan and District jail Lakki Marwat had approved. Similarly, phase-I of district Jail Hangu, District Jail Swabi and Central Jail Mardan had also been approved.
However, approval of phase-I of Sub jail Tank, District jail Dir Upper and Sub Jail Banda Daud Shah Karak was in progress. The meeting also discussed the financial matters of such projects and exchanged proposals to finalise the sites of Sub Jail Banda Daud Shah Karak. The meeting disclosed that District Jail Lakki Marwat was near completion and will in operation in the end of June 2009.
Mian Nisar Gul while speaking to the participants of the meeting directed the officers concerned to carry out their energies to make the ADP successful in all respect. The minister said that keeping in view the present law and order situation, positive change requires in our attitude to tackle the situation. He also appreciated to efforts of the jail staff and urged to work with more devotion and dedication.
Earlier, Minister for Zakat, Haji Zarshaid directed the district zakat chairmen to under take visit of concerned jails and prepare lists of deserving of zakat and patients so as they could be provided health coverage through Zakat funds. On the occasion, MPA Mohammad Anwar Khan also presented some proposals regarding the construction of jail in Upper Dir.
