Phthalic anhydride: NTC asked to review tariff structure

12 Jun, 2009

Indigenous industry manufacturing phthalic anhydride (PA) has asked the National Tariff Commission (NTC) to review the tariff structure for the said finished product to provide adequate protection to the local industry. Their plea is to impose 20 percent Regulatory Duty on all imports of PA with immediate effect. Phthalic Anhydride is an important industrial chemical, used especially for large-scale production of plastics.
To protect the local industry India has already, very recently imposed 25 percent safeguard duty on import of PA from all over the world. Now all those exporters who were currently exporting PA to India may divert their exports to Pakistan which may result in the elimination of local industry.-PR
