Singapore shares tumble

Singapore shares closed 2.55 percent lower on Monday as there were few fresh leads to spark interest, said dealers. The blue chip Straits Times Index (STI) lost 60.51 points to 2,316.56. Volume totalled 1.95 billion shares worth 1.37 billion Singapore dollars (938 million US) and there were 100 rising issuees, 497 losers while 678 were flat.
For the blue chips, Singapore Airlines fell 26 cents to 12.72 dollars, Singapore Telecommunications lost six cents to 2.90 and Keppel Corp dropped 35 cents to 6.90. DBS eased 22 cents to 12 dollars, United Overseas Bank fell 36 cents to 14.82 and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp lost 13 cents to 7.10.
