17 Jun, 2009

Dr Jim Hill, Associate Dean of International Programs and College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of California Davis, USA has said that the similarity in the climate, agricultural ecology of Pakistan and the Californian state has paved the way for more depth in Pak-US relations, through a concrete foundation of co operation between the UAF and the UC Davis on water efficiency, post-harvest management, and horticultural practices.
He was addressing the participants of a seminar held at the Old Senate Hall to examine the ways for further boosting co operation between both institutions. Dr Jim Hill pointed out that 49% of California's agricultural inventions, or biotechnology, could enhance the productivity of Pakistan manifold. He said that water was a major issue in California.
There was a time when less water was available, even for urban use. He told the participants that California's agriculture was highly diversified and that the major production was of high value crops, which were directly integrated with the market.
