Netherlands on Wednesday announced an additional Euros two million (Rupees 223 million) aid for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Pakistan. According to Netherlands embassy, out of this aid, one million Euros will be forwarded to UNHCR and the other one million Euros to ICRC.
This additional amount is in response to the approach for help by the UN and Pakistan in view of the humanitarian crisis which has occurred in Northern Pakistan. The Netherlands is a major donor internationally to the core funding of ICRC, UNHCR and CERF. In 2009 these funds amount to 25 million Euro, 42 million Euro and 40 million Euro respectively.
This core funding is co-ordinated by the UN for emergency situations world-wide. The advantage of the core funding is that it is readily available when such large scale tragedies occur. The UN works in clusters and these work with leading organisations within the UN, NGO's and local government bodies in order to provide the initial food, health, education and shelter to those affected the most. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Islamabad appreciated the rapid response to the humanitarian crisis by the Pakistani government.
